St. Mary's Food Drive at Arizona State Fair Drive Thru Fair Food
By Lisa Padilla - Wednesday Oct 21, 2020
The cancellation of the 2020 Arizona State Fair brought an outpouring of disappointment from Fair Fans, craving their annual fried food on a stick, Skyride, Coliseum Concert, and family tradition. It also dramatically affected St. Mary’s Food Bank, which receives about 100,000 pounds of food annually from the Arizona State Fair “We Care Wednesday” Food Drive. To help, the Arizona State Fair is encouraging visitors to the Fair Food Drive Thru, to bring non-perishable food items for donation.

“For the first few months of the pandemic, we saw double and triple the number of clients and 50 percent of those visiting our main distribution center in Phoenix were coming to a food bank for the first time,” said Jerry Brown, Director of Public Relations for St. Mary’s Food Bank. “We’re grateful to our Fair Friends for offering to help with the demand.”

The Arizona State Fair Food Drive Thru runs this Thursday and Friday, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Food Drive Thru is closed on Saturday, October 24, for the Early Voting Ballot Drive Thru Drop Off.
