Growing up in Havana, Cuba, Ana de Armas decided early on to create her legacy on the big screen. The 31-year-old knew by age 12 she wanted to become an actress. In order to prepare for that path in her life, she attended the National Theater School of Cuba before moving to Spain at age 18.
When de Armas decided to move her career from Spain to Hollywood, she faced the challenge of learning how to speak English. It reportedly took two years for the actress to get the language down, and her first English speaking role was in the 2015 horror film “Knock Knock.”
But her breakout Hollywood role was her portrayal of the hologram Joi in “Blade Runner 2049.” Starring alongside Ryan Gosling, de Armas played the love interest to his character, LAPD Officer ‘K.’
