With Tiny Houses Becoming the Rage, are There any Designed Specifically for Seniors?
The tiny house industry has exploded with unbelievable designs to meet anyone’s needs. Many seniors are now downsizing to smaller living arrangements.
According to an article at seniorplanet.org, “The tiny house movement’s growing popularity reflects a desire among some Americans to pare down, consume less and enjoy a simpler, more customized lifestyle.†Some seniors are buying plots of land with friends and forming a tiny house community.
A company called MEDCottage offers an alternative to living independently when you no longer can. It is not an ordinary tiny house though; it is specifically designed to meet the needs of a senior citizen or disabled individual. This tiny house is placed in the family’s backyard. This solution gives the senior citizen their own separate little cottage but puts it close enough to the family home that they can easily cross the yard for shared meals and companionship. The senior citizen doesn’t have to live with their children, and they can keep their independence. The family has peace of mind also. They can check on their loved ones without having to drive across town, and the grandchildren can visit anytime. It would be perfect for someone who is reasonably independent but may need some assistance with some tasks. The tiny home structure can be moved if needed.
The possibilities are there to join the tiny house movement, but first, you must be able to downsize and get rid of some of your treasures.
