I Need Hemorrhoid Surgery, but My Friends & Family Have Frightened Me from Proceeding with Surgery. Is there anything Besides Traditional Excisional Surgery?
Hemorrhoids are the result of excessive blood flow and larger diameter vessels that feed the normal arterial anal hemorrhoidal cushions. This can result in symptoms such as bleeding, pain, discomfort, swelling and prolapse (protruding of hemorrhoid tissue). Hemorrhoids will occur in 50 percent of the population by the age of 50. Eighty-five percent of the population will experience hemorrhoid symptoms in their lifetime.
Most definitive procedures being done involve some form of excisional therapy. Today a non-excisional definitive surgical treatment is available called Trans Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD). THD uses ultrasound to locate the hemorrhoidal arteries so that they may be ligated. The surgeon will then repair any prolapsed tissue if present, again using only suture. No tissue is cut or excised. THD is performed as an outpatient surgery and most patients will return to normal activities within 4 days. THD eliminates the most dreaded complications of hemorrhoid surgery such as anal stenosis and anal sphincter damage, which can lead to incontinence (loss of bowel control). Since THD is excision-less, and uses only sutures for repair, a patient’s pain is much less, recuperation is faster and healing is much quicker.
Stop feeling embarrassed and stop feeling afraid. Get the procedure you need and get your life back.
