Leading the Way: Christopher Tyhurst Takes on Expanded Leadership Role at REDW
For nearly three decades, Christopher Tyhurst, CPA, has grown alongside REDW Advisors & CPAs.
Now, he is helping lead its next chapter in Arizona.
Tyhurst was recently named Phoenix Office Leader for REDW, a national advisory and accounting firm with more than 375 professionals across the country. In the role, he serves as executive leader for the Phoenix office, supporting its professionals while strengthening relationships throughout Arizona’s business and broader community.
The appointment builds on a history with REDW that dates back to 1996, when Tyhurst joined Albuquerque-based Erickson Allen, which became part of REDW the following year. He was named a principal in 2008 and relocated to the Valley in 2013, joining what was then REDW’s growing Phoenix operation.
Since then, the office has grown to more than 120 professionals and become an important hub for the firm’s commercial growth, industry expansion and talent recruitment across the Southwest.
Today, Tyhurst is helping guide that continued evolution.
As Phoenix Office Leader, he is focused on supporting professionals working in the office as well as remotely and in hybrid settings, while developing processes that better connect clients with expertise across REDW. The firm has grown beyond traditional accounting to provide services including software solutions, wealth management, human resources consulting, forensic and dispute advisory, business valuation and cybersecurity.
Tyhurst also continues to serve as a principal in REDW’s Audit & Assurance practice, bringing extensive experience working with Tribal organizations, nonprofit health systems and government enterprises. His work ranges from audit and assurance services to strategic consulting, governance training, financial forecasting, federal grant compliance and internal controls.
His work with Tribal Nations has been an especially significant part of his career. For nearly a decade, Tyhurst chaired REDW’s Tribal Finance & Leadership Conference, helping develop the event into a leading educational gathering for Tribal governments and enterprises.
That same focus on relationships extends into the community.
Tyhurst served on the board of directors of the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also supported Sojourner Center and Naomi House and participated in efforts to improve financial literacy among children and teens, particularly those living on Tribal lands.
Through the firm’s recently expanded community impact platform, Tyhurst also encourages professionals to volunteer, lend their expertise and take leadership roles with nonprofit, civic, business and professional organizations.
For Tyhurst, those connections are increasingly important as Phoenix continues to grow. REDW sees opportunities to deepen its work with privately held and middle-market businesses, healthcare organizations, construction and real estate companies and nonprofits as their accounting, technology and strategic needs become increasingly complex.
Tyhurst will now help lead that work in a market he has called home for more than a decade, backed by nearly 30 years of history with the firm and a leadership philosophy centered on people, relationships and community.
And as REDW continues to grow, so will his role in helping shape what comes next.
