Catch the Endless Summer in Huntington Beach…Even During Fall

Summer may technically end in September, but Huntington Beach never got the memo.

Nicknamed Surf City USA, the Southern California destination enjoys 10 miles of uninterrupted coastline, approximately 281 days of sunshine each year and some of its warmest weather from summer well into fall. Add in fewer crowds, spectacular seasonal sunsets and easy access from Arizona, and September through November may be among the best times to experience it.

At the center of it all is the nearly 1,900-foot Huntington Beach Pier, where surfers paddle into the Pacific below as visitors take in seemingly endless ocean views above. Miles of beachfront paths invite exploration by bike, while nearby Pacific City offers open-air shopping, dining and entertainment overlooking the water.

And directly across Pacific Coast Highway from the sand is a destination that makes it tempting to spend much of the getaway in one place.

Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa brings the amenities of a sprawling Southern California resort together with direct beach access and a location close enough to walk to many of the city’s biggest attractions.

Spanish-inspired architecture frames lush courtyards, fountains and multiple pools throughout the property, including Slyders Family Pool, where three waterslides make it a magnet for younger travelers. Spacious rooms and suites feature terraces overlooking the Pacific, pools or landscaped grounds, while select accommodations feature furnished patios and private fire pits.

For families or groups seeking more room, the Huntington Suite offers more than 1,100 square feet of space with a king bedroom and separate living room with a sleeper sofa. Better yet, it connects to two additional rooms, allowing it to transform into a two- or three-bedroom retreat ideal for multigenerational getaways.

Then there is the Presidential Suite. At a whopping 2,500 square feet, the ocean-view accommodation feels more like a private residence than a hotel room. Beyond the separate bedroom is a living room with a fireplace, formal dining space, walk-in closet and butler’s pantry with a sink, microwave and full-size refrigerator.

Of course, the biggest amenity is just across the street. Guests have direct access to Huntington Beach via the resort’s pedestrian bridge, making it possible to move from pool to Pacific without navigating traffic. Better still, complimentary beach gear takes much of the work out of a day on the sand. Those looking to go bigger may upgrade their beach day with a VIP set-up, allowing the resort to handle the heavy lifting while guests concentrate on the waves.

Come evening, the beach takes on an entirely different personality.

Private bonfire experiences bring guests back to the sand with chairs, blankets, hot chocolate and s’mores as the sun disappears over the Pacific. Fall makes the experience particularly memorable, when the lower angle of the sun can produce brilliant shades of orange, pink, purple and red across the sky.

There is plenty to savor back at the resort as well. Pete’s Sunset Grille is an easy choice for casual fare throughout the day, while SHOR pairs California comfort food with ocean views.

The culinary crown jewel, however, is Watertable.

Considered a destination in its own right, the restaurant brings chef-driven coastal cuisine and craft cocktails together in an intimate setting that makes it equally appealing for a romantic dinner or celebration. It is the sort of hotel restaurant locals seek out even when they are not checking in, making it one of the resort’s biggest surprises and among the standouts of Huntington Beach’s dining scene.

The same may be said for Pacific Waters Spa.

At 20,000 square feet, the spa feels like a warm Spanish estate hidden within the resort. Natural products and botanical elements inspired by the earth and sea are incorporated into massages, facials and body treatments, with ingredients ranging from mud and algae to plant minerals, fruit, seaweed and purified seawater.

Those looking beyond traditional spa services may explore its collection of holistic wellness options. Infrared sauna treatments use heat as part of the restorative experience, while BioMat therapy incorporates infrared warmth and crystals into sessions focused on relaxation and overall well-being. Other offerings, including red light-focused wellness options, provide yet another reason to carve out time for the spa.

Beyond the resort, fall offers time to explore Huntington Beach at a more relaxed pace. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve provides a completely different look at the coastline, while Huntington Harbour may be explored by electric boat, kayak or paddleboard. Duke’s Huntington Beach remains an iconic stop for waterfront dining, and Pacific City provides an easy place to shop, sip and watch another sunset.
