United Food Bank Hosts Annual Thanksgiving Distribution
By Claire Natale - Friday Nov 17, 2023
The holiday season can be a tough time for low-income families, especially those struggling from food insecurity. United Food Bank is working to support over 2,500 Arizona families with the return of its holiday Thanksgiving food distribution. In partnership with State Farm, the Department of Economic Security and the Arizona Cardinals Football Club, the food distribution will be held on Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or when the food runs out, at the Mesa Convention Center.

This distribution will provide families in the East Valley with all the items needed to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for their families. There will be a variety of nutritious holiday food items including a turkey, produce boxes, and shelf stable holiday bag for a traditional holiday meal.

Cardinals alumni Drew Stanton and Lorenzo Alexander are scheduled to join Cardinals cheerleaders to help distribute the turkeys from 10 to 11 a.m. The Cardinals cheerleaders will be there from 9 to 11 a.m.

State Farm and the Arizona Cardinals began the ‘Let’s Tackle Hunger’ social media campaign on Nov. 7 that featured Humphries and Gardeck as the faces of the Cardinals offense and defense with the two competing to see who could raise the most money for their community. The drive exceeded its $25,000 goal and is now challenging the community to continue providing holiday meals with a $50,000 match for the Thanksgiving food distribution.

“Food is at the center of every Thanksgiving celebration,” said Jason Reed, CEO of United Food Bank. “We are thrilled to provide thousands of Arizona families every year with the chance to enjoy a traditional and nutritious Thanksgiving meal surrounded by their friends and loved ones.”

Arizonans struggling to put food on the table this holiday season are invited to come to its drive-thru Thanksgiving food distribution and pick up a meal. Walk-up service will also be available for those without a vehicle.

United Food Bank is appreciative of all its community partners and its volunteers who make this distribution possible, from building the bags to collecting turkeys.
