The Urban Farm and Bee Oasis Announce Permaculture Design Course
By Claire Natale - Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
The Urban Farm and Bee Oasis are excited to announce that registration for the Phoenix Permaculture Design Course (PDC) this spring is officially open. Beginning on February 19 and continuing over the course of five weekends, this 72-hour deep dive introduction into permaculture is designed to give students a whole new perspective on sustainability and regenerative design.

To start off your PDC adventure, The Urban Farm is also offering a free online Zoom class on January 18 at 6:00 p.m. that will provide attendees with an introduction into permaculture. The Introduction to Permaculture class with Don Titmus and Greg Peterson, the owner of The Urban Farm will focus on the beginnings of what permaculture is and how it can be applied in your everyday lives.

The Phoenix Permaculture Design Course is a one-of-a-kind hands-on course that focuses on permaculture and regenerative design with an emphasis on dry lands and southwest ecosystems. This course is led by Don Titmus and Greg Peterson, as well as several other guest teachers adding to a well-rounded program for those interested in perfecting their permaculture skills. Course topics include agroforestry, design principles and patterning, site analysis, drylands gardening principles, ecosystem restoration, regenerative community economics, soils and erosion control, village and community design, water harvesting, invisible structures, and many other topics.

“The Phoenix PDC course is one of my favorite courses that I always look forward to teaching as it is truly a life-changing class,” said Peterson. “Students will learn how they can use nature’s own energy and cycles to foster a regenerative system in their landscape and lifestyle. I like to define Permaculture as the art and science of working with nature.”

About The Urban Farm
For more than 30 years, Greg Peterson has made a name for himself in the urban farming and gardening community, transforming his 1/3-acre home in central Phoenix into an edible showcase known as ‘The Urban Farm.’ Peterson created urbanfarm.org from a passion for urban farming which grew as he transformed his space into and edible paradise. Peterson empowers people to plant their own by offering educational classes both online and in-person, as well as events to promote fruit trees and vegetable seeds. The Urban Farm’s mission is to educate and inspire. The transition from gardener to farmer is an easy one...simply share what you have grown with others: both the fruits of your labor and the knowledge about what you did.
