The Uncommon Opens in Downtown Chandler
By Claire Natale - Friday Oct 07, 2022
Nostalgic Bar, Eatery and Entertainment Venue Serves Out-of-this-World Food and Cocktails

The Uncommon, an eatery, bar and arcade, opened on Wednesday, July 13 in Downtown Chandler. This one-of-a-kind, nostalgic restaurant, located at 1 E. Boston St., offers arcade games and creative cocktails and food.

The Uncommon is riddled with playful gems that will bring out the child in all of us. The space has well-known throwbacks, including a Zoltar machine, shuffleboard, Skee-Ball, pinball, pong tables, a photo booth, bubble hockey and many other video games. Spread throughout the venue are little toys and trinkets that will bring patrons back to the days where Atari was the new kid on the block and Cabbage Patch kids ruled the world.

“The amount of detail that has been packed into The Uncommon has been overwhelmingly received with smiles and laughter brought on by the memories of childhood,” said Niels Kreipke, The Uncommon owner. “The space is unrivaled in the Valley and is truly special.”

The menu at The Uncommon is also playful and creative. It is filled with familiar items that have unfamiliar spins. The “Sloan Peterson” (Ferris Bueller’s girlfriend) is a smoked salmon BLT, made with avocado and garlic aioli on sourdough bread. The “Grilled Chicken ‘Thing’” is a play on chicken wings but made with chicken thighs instead and served with Carolina mustard BBQ sauce and Reyes blue cheese dressing. The “Inigo Montoya” (of Princess Bride fame) is a unique burger that’s served on a freshly made English Muffin with white American cheese, bacon, pickles, arugula, red onion and garlic aioli. The most unique item on the menu is “Porky’s Revenge,” a pounded pork cutlet, breaded and fried, topped with a poached egg and served with Japanese apple crisp curry and forbidden rice.

“There isn’t a menu item that shouldn’t be tried here,” said Schuyler Estes, executive chef at The Uncommon. “A well balanced and perfectly executed blend of offerings is key to the success of this menu.”

The Cocktail menu is just as eclectic and exciting as the food.

The Uncommon has live music on the weekends and DJs during the week. The arcade offers plenty of fun for kids and adults alike. The Venue is 21 and over after 10 p.m. The 7,000 sq. feet inside and large patio space outside can host gatherings, big and small. The days and hours of operations are Wednesday through Saturday 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. Sunday 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.
