The Rocky Mountain Emmys Honors KRQE Cares With Governors’ Award
By Claire Natale - Thursday Aug 10, 2023
The Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce KRQE Cares as the 2023 Governors’ Award recipient. The award will be presented during the Rocky Mountain Southwest Emmy ® Gala on Nov. 4.

The Governors’ Award is the Rocky Mountain Emmys’ highest honor an individual, organization or company can receive. Recipients have made contributions to the industry that go far beyond their typical craft as well as have made a significant impact on the community.

The mission of KRQE Cares is to positively and quantifiably impact children of low-income families throughout the state of New Mexico, which has the 3rd highest poverty rate in the country. Since its creation in 2015, the organization has given out over 26,000 new pairs of shoes, distributed over 3,000 food boxes, and roughly 150,000 new books were given out to low-income children. All of this through its KRQE Cares Food for Kids, Books for Kids and Shoes for Kids programs.

KRQE Media Group saw the challenges within its community and started KRQE Cares to consolidate its community outreach and create a more thoughtful and impactful approach to the problems facing New Mexicans. Viewers, corporate sponsors, and non-profits the program partners with are the center of this program and help to advance the program with funding. As a result, KRQE Cares has built many lasting relationships that will continue to serve the children and bring together its community.

“The KRQE Cares campaign epitomizes many of the values that our organization and its members hold near and dear,” said Doug Mummert, president of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter. “The organization’s community outreach and its results represent just a small part of the reason why we in the region are so proud of our friends and constituents in New Mexico. We congratulate KRQE and are proud to present them with our 2023 Governors’ Award."

In addition to the Governors' Award, the Rocky Mountain Emmy® Awards on Nov. 4th will honor a multitude of outstanding TV professionals throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and El Centro, California in categories including news, sports, environment, entertainment, weather, politics, education and business.
