The CORE Institute has announced the launch of its rapid COVID-19 antibody testing program. The test does not detect the virus itself, but rather antibodies in the blood that show the presence of an immune system response, typically due to prior exposure to the virus. The test is administered at select clinical locations in Phoenix with plans to expand to other markets soon. Education and updated schedules can be found at http://www.antibodyresults.com
The CORE Institute’s medical providers conduct a simple finger prick blood test to check patients’ immune system for the IgM and IgG antibodies, which develop both during and after exposure to COVID-19. The presence of antibodies suggests a person was previously infected with the virus, even if they never showed symptoms. The convenient drive-up test is performed while the patient remains in the safety and comfort of their vehicle. Results are provided to the patients typically in just 15 minutes.
“We’re proud to be able to provide antibody testing to give our community, first responders and other essential workers additional information regarding potential past exposure to the COVID-19 virus. This may have implications in how we adjust our response as a community in our fight against the pandemic,†said Vice Chairman of The CORE Institute, Dr. Jason Scalise. “Antibody tests are critical in helping to identify who may have already had COVID-19 as well as those who may be able to donate plasma to those with more severe cases of the virus.â€
Ongoing research suggests that plasma from previously infected individuals could be used to help treat severe COVID-19 patients. Additional research is focused on how protective the antibodies might be against the COVID-19 virus going forward which may assist people in deciding how to safely return to work and more normal activities, added Dr. Scalise.
In addition to the antibody testing, The CORE Institute recently implemented a Telehealth Program to provide continued care for its patients from the comfort of their homes. The CORE Institute also launched an Urgent Ortho program, transitioning its clinics to providing urgent orthopedic care services to help ease the burden on the emergency rooms, urgent care centers and hospitals.
The CORE Institute was founded to fulfill a vision of excellence in patient care encompassing the entire spectrum of orthopedic and neurosciences care.
