Community Event to Raise Money for local artists affected by pandemic
Throughout the pandemic, local artists have succumbed to limited exposure of their art and in turn a loss of income. With a small list of resources available for career artists, and even some artists being denied unemployment, Soul Center: A Place for CommUnity and Wellness, Phoenix Creative Relief Fund, and the Downtown Mesa Association are asking the community to come together in a time of need.
The “Spark†event is being held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Soul Center (130 W Main St, Mesa, AZ 85201) to raise awareness around the importance of companionship and its impacts on mental health. There have been countless people who have suffered due to the pandemic, the local community being at the top of the list. In conjunction with its mission, Soul Center is providing a platform where people can come together to support the community and connect with one another at a safe distance.
This event will contain several vendors and creatives from different parts of Arizona. Soul Center will enforce CDC compliant social distancing between all participants. There will be several different types of performance artists and vendors including:
Live music and DJs
Flow artists
Dancing
Painters
Jewelry
Local plant based food, juice, and smoothie vendors
This is a free event, there is no ticket fee to attend. Instead Soul Center asks that a donation be made to the Phoenix Creative Relief Fund. There will also be raffle opportunities for visitors to contribute to. All proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Phoenix Creative Relief Fund.
All vendor booths will be set up outdoors along Main Street and under the archway in the walkway next to Soul Center. Live flow performances will be placed on the red brick alleyway next to Soul Center.
Soul Center is asking the community to respond to their Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/990845131388069 to monitor the number of attendees and space that the event will be held in.
For those that cannot attend the event in person, a GoFundMe has been created that will be raising money through December. The funds raised will be split amongst the Phoenix artists that submitted applications for relief funds. Donations can be made here: https://gf.me/u/yqi57s
