By Claire Natale - Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
From Ballet Arizona’s beloved holiday production of “The Nutcracker” by Artistic Director Ib Andersen to storybook favorites like “Giselle” and “Cinderella,” this 2022-2023 season features a blend of classical and contemporary ballets. Single tickets for Ballet Arizona’s 37th season are officially available for purchase online at balletaz.org, or by calling the box office at 602-381-1096, and in-person at Ballet Arizona’s studios located on 2835 E. Washington Street in Phoenix.

The season officially kicks off in September with “Contemporary Moves,” one of Ballet Arizona’s annual productions that offers a wide variety of contemporary works showcased by three unique and modern ballets all in one evening. Audiences will experience the Arizona premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour and a world premiere by company dancer, Nayon Iovino. Alejandro Cerrudo’s Second to Last, a piece originally commissioned for Ballet Arizona and first premiered in 2013, will perform for the first time since 2016.

Continuing the 2022-2023 season this October is the romantic tale of Ib Andersen’s “Cinderella”, that will enchant audiences by making the pages of this cherished storybook come to life through dance. No holiday season would be complete without Ballet Arizona’s famous performance of Ib Andersen’s “The Nutcracker.” Each year thousands of families across the Valley rejoice in the magic of the holidays by choosing this classic for their annual tradition.

Celebrate love, tragedy, and romance on Valentine’s Day weekend with “Giselle” as it returns to the stage for the first time since 2012. Ballet Arizona is also excited to perform three ballets from renowned choreographer George Balanchine in “All Balanchine,” which includes the Arizona premiere of Raymonda Variations in May. Lastly, Ballet Arizona will end its 37th season with a world premiere ballet by Ib Andersen for “An Evening at Desert Botanical Garden” as the season’s grand finale.

“This season is one you won’t want to miss as we present new works by world-renowned choreographers and celebrate the classics. Audiences will embark on an enchanting journey with each performance,” said Ib Andersen, Ballet Arizona’s Artistic Director. “We promise to inspire, entertain, and showcase the growing artistic excellence Ballet Arizona has to offer.”
