In 2017, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (“TCJA”) increased the estate tax exemption to an unprecedented level, doubling the previous amount. Today, the exemption for a single person is $11.7 million. Although the estate tax exemption has never decreased, the current level are set to expire at the end of 2025, returning the exemption to $5 million, adjusted for inflation. Currently, the Biden administration has not made any changes to the exemption. Thus, although it is possible there will be no decrease in the exemption, prudent planners should consider the possibility.
In honor of National Estate Planning Week, attorneys Lou Silverman and Tomi Farr of Silverman Law Offices will offer this free to the public webinar about the estate tax exemption.
