By Claire Natale - Friday Jan 26, 2024
After Six Years, Rodeos Return to Wild Horse Pass at Newly Rebranded Buck-N Rodeo Grounds

Wild Horse Pass is hosting its first event under the newly rebranded Buck-N Rodeo Grounds after a six-year rodeo hiatus. Located at 5244 S. 48th St. next to the legendary Rawhide Western Town, the Senior Pro Rodeo will be held on Feb. 2-5 by the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association to kick off its first event of 2024 and the “The Road to SNFR (Senior National Finals Rodeo),” which will take place in October back at the Buck-N Rodeo Grounds.

“Elevating to an all-new experience, we are thrilled to bring back our renewed Buck-N Rodeo Grounds at Wild Horse Pass,” said Paul Vanderveen, general manager of Wild Horse Pass Development Authority. “The Buck-N Rodeo Grounds is the perfect backdrop for these events, which honors Western culture and history.”

Each day of the Senior Pro Rodeo features full Rough Stock events that include Saddle Bronc, Bareback, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Roping, Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping and of course the fan favorite, Bull Riding. Food trucks and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available to purchase on site.

“This event showcases seasoned cowboys and cowgirls demonstrating their skills and experience,” said Lex Hubbard, board member for the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association. “The Senior Pro Rodeo is not just a competition; it’s a celebration of the rich heritage of rodeo, where the riders’ stories are as important as the events themselves. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Wild West, showcasing that passion for the rodeo doesn’t diminish with age.”

On Friday, Feb. 2, doors will open at 5 p.m., and the rodeo will start at 6 p.m. On Feb. 3-5, doors will open at noon each day, and the rodeo will start at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $18 and $60 for a four-pack. Active military, veterans and first responders can receive a discount of $6 off their ticket. Children/youth up to age 12 have free entry. The final day of the event (Monday) has discounted admission as low as $6. Senior Pro Rodeo will occur rain or shine.

The Buck-N Rodeo Grounds feature east and west stadium seating, modern lighting, warm up arena and all the classic rodeo fixins to eat and drink. It blends the charm of the Wild West with cutting-edge facilities, providing a thrilling and immersive experience for both participants and spectators alike.
