New Year, New Mindset: Solari Crisis & Human Services Champions Positive Mental Health Through Actionable Resolutions
By Brian O'Malley - Friday Jan 26, 2024
While much is reported about seasonal depression during the holidays, Solari Crisis and Human Services reports an uptick in calls to their Arizona statewide crisis line and the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline in January compared to December. Last year, calls to 844-534-HOPE increased more than 22% while calls to 988 increased more than 10%, and the company expects that uptick trend to continue in 2024.

As the new year begins, the Tempe-based nonprofit is highlighting ways in which individuals can prioritize their mental health and utilize resources available to them to proactively improve their mental state and prevent larger crises that may require additional intervention.

“The statewide crisis line and 988 are not only there for times of crisis, but also are a 24/7/365 resource for those experiencing moments of mental strife for any reason. Crisis specialists provide support in the moment and connections to resources for ongoing assistance,” says Justin Chase, Solari CEO. “Setting attainable goals and resolutions to achieve better mental health should be a priority for us all in this hectic and fast-paced world as we can all get overwhelmed at times and Solari is there for you should the need arise.”

Solari champions the belief that fostering a compassionate and supportive community is crucial for mental well-being. Considering this, the organization shares a few nurturing goals for individuals to set in the new year:

Prioritize Self-Care: Embrace daily routines that promote mindfulness, regular exercise, and sufficient sleep.
Cultivate Connections: Actively engage in social activities and build meaningful connections with friends, family, and the community to dispel feelings of isolation.
Curate Online Well-being: Unfollow pages on social media that contribute to negative self-perception or feelings of inadequacy. Cultivate a digital space that uplifts and inspires rather than undermines well-being.
Set Realistic Goals: Break down larger aspirations into manageable tasks, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation.
Seek Professional Support: Reach out to mental health professionals when needed. The national 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline allows people to dial, text, or chat 988 to receive free private mental health help. This lifeline is not only for emergencies; counselors can also offer preventative resources and encourage proactive measures.

Staffed 24/7 by Solari’s professionally trained Crisis Intervention Specialists in Arizona, 844-534-HOPE and 988 are free and confidential services. In 2023, the nonprofit received an average of more than 43,000 calls to the Arizona statewide crisis line and 988 per month with an average speed of answer of less than 10 seconds. Just under 80% percent of the time, crisis call specialists were able to stabilize the situation over the phone. If the situation could not be stabilized, Solari dispatched a discreet mobile crisis team to meet with the caller face-to-face.

As a nonprofit that relies on the support of our community, Solari is hosting its second annual Inspiring Hope Gala on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ. Funds raised at the gala will support Solari’s suicide and crisis lifelines, along with other crucial programs.
