New Life Center Receives New U-Haul Truck Courtesy of Sanderson Ford
By Claire Natale - Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
New Life Center (NLC), the largest domestic violence shelter in Arizona, is excited to announce it recently received a new U-Haul truck and Ford E450 Cargo Van courtesy of Sanderson Ford to use for operations at the shelter and thrift store, Hope’s Closet. The store serves two important purposes to the center. First, every child and adult seeking refuge at NLC’s emergency shelter has access to all of the clothing and furnishings offered at the store free of charge. Additionally, all proceeds from Hope's Closet are used to support the shelter’s operations. The team at Sanderson Ford will also be auctioning off NLC’s former truck fleet and returning the money back to the center’s programs.

“Donations from businesses like Sanderson Ford allow us to continue to serve some of the most vulnerable families and adults in our state,” said Myriah Mhoon, New Life Center CEO. “I am beyond thankful for their gracious donation to NLC. With these vehicles, we can both help our residents, and community members who shop at Hope’s Closet.”

The center offers four core programs to help survivors in need: residential, children, outreach and lay legal advocacy. NLC has a 104-bed emergency shelter that uses the trauma-informed care model to support families in starting independent lives, free from violence. With 70% of the shelter’s population being children, the NLC has created a safe place for parents to grow, learn and positively interact with their children. Kids in the program are provided with age-appropriate group learning opportunities utilizing the active learning model and individually tailored goal plans.

NLC provides mobile advocacy to survivors both residing in the community and off campus. Mobile advocates support clients in all stages of the domestic violence process beginning with an intake, which includes a lethality assessment, safety plan and needs assessment. Finally, survivors also have access to lay legal advocacy. While lay legal advocates are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice or prepare legal documentation, they help clients understand their situation by gathering facts and information and navigating Arizona’s family, civil and criminal law systems.

Sanderson Ford has been a family owned and operated dealership in Glendale, Arizona for more than 66 years. They lead the nation in new Ford sales, are the most awarded dealership in America for customer service and have achieved all this while being closed every Sunday and most major holidays. Sanderson’s biggest pride is giving back to the community with a passion for kids and the military. The dealership’s annual Operation Santa Claus drive has netted millions of dollars for local charities for more than a decade. Sanderson Ford is proud to continue giving back by growing a new partnership with the New Life Center.
