Mission of Mercy to Host 3rd Annual Spring Into Wellness Walk & Health Fair
By Michelle Talsma Everson - Tuesday Feb 21, 2023
Mission of Mercy Arizona (MOM), a Phoenix-based nonprofit dedicated to providing free primary medical care and medications to those in need, will host its 3rd Annual Spring Into Wellness Walk & Health Fair at North Phoenix Baptist Church from 8:30-11 a.m. Sat., March 11, 2023.

The event will feature a 1-mile family fun run/walk at North Phoenix Baptist Church (5757 N. Central Ave., Phoenix), in addition to exercise activities with Restorative Fitness and a health fair featuring community information and resources. Fun for the whole family, there will be a DJ, bounce house, face painting, games and a raffle with great prizes! MOM will have its mobile medical RV on site for tours and the Phoenix Suns gorilla will also stop by. Additionally, the Uptown Farmer’s Market will be happening, so attendees can grab fresh fruits, veggies and other goods after the event. The event will be held in the south parking lot off Central Avenue and Montebello. A map is on our registration website.

Spring Into Wellness registration is just $20 for those 13 and older, and includes all activities and games, a giveaway bag and a raffle ticket. Children ages 12 and younger are free. Register online at momwellness.org.

All proceeds raised will go directly toward funding MOM’s health clinic operations, which provide primary healthcare, diabetes education, and chronic disease management and prevention. More than 90% of MOM’s patients have one or more chronic condition, including diabetes, high cholesterol or hypertension.

“As we start a new year with new goals, many people choose to focus on their health and well-being,” said Paula Carvalho, executive director of Mission of Mercy Arizona, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary serving Arizonans this year. “Whether you want to achieve personal fitness goals this spring or you’re simply interested in getting outside for a morning of healthy activities in the sun, our hope is to empower all our participants on their wellness journeys.”

Through six clinics operating five days per week across the Valley and a network of more than 100 volunteer doctors, nurses and medical interpreters, Mission of Mercy provides approximately 2,500 patients with medical care and vital prescription medications each year.

Unlike other free or low-cost healthcare clinics, Mission of Mercy Arizona has no cumbersome prequalification process, which can be a barrier to care for patients and sometimes deters people from seeking medical help.

In 2022, Mission of Mercy Arizona provided approximately 11,000 free patient visits and dispensed more than 39,000 prescription medications. MOM’s six mobile clinics are located in the communities of Phoenix, Mesa, Avondale, Maryvale and Chandler.

Spring into Wellness is made possible through the generous support of Sonora Quest Laboratories, CenterWell Pharmacy, Dignity Health and Sprouts Farmers Market. For more information on sponsorship opportunities or to be a vendor at the health fair, visit momwellness.org.
