Local Latina Artist Announces Inaugural Solo Art Exhibition
By Erica Shipione - Tuesday Oct 03, 2023
Phoenix artist Kathryn Sesma, better known as La Jefa, is excited to announce her inaugural solo art exhibition, "La Vida Es Un Carnival,” which translates to “Life is a Party.” The show will take place at Luna Culture Lab, a multicultural art gallery, event space and research facility in downtown Phoenix on Friday, November 3, 2023.

"La Vida Es Un Carnival” will take gallerygoers on a journey through a kaleidoscope of colors and visionary perspectives that define La Jefa’s artistic world. With an art journey spanning 14 years, and an emergence during the pandemic, La Jefa’s art utilizes Día de los Muertos and Mexican culture influence as subject matter through the vibrant realm of mixed media paintings adorned with glitter.

“I’ve been dreaming of this solo show and every detail of it for as long as I can remember,” says La Jefa. “I’m absolutely thrilled to share my work and really, a part of myself with showgoers. I hope that with this show, viewers will be able to see the world through my lens-full of color, glitter, and life.”

La Jefa's art has been featured in galleries across the Valley in Scottsdale and Phoenix and the vibrant and artistic Barrio Logan neighborhood in San Diego, California. She has also been featured by “Arizona Barrio Stories,” KJZZ-FM, KOAI-FM, KKFR-FM and KMVA-FM.
