Local Donut Shop Partners With Vans to Spread Sweet Joy in the Valley
By Claire Natale - Monday May 03, 2021
Chin Up Donuts Designs Groovy Footwear and T-Shirt to Raise Money for Packaging, Mural and Staff

Self-proclaimed Chief Donut Officer and local baked goods chef, Alex McEntire opened Chin Up Donuts in November of 2020 with a mission to share positivity and optimism in the world. To grow her business, McEntire applied for Vans “Foot the Bill” initiative, which was developed to help small business get back on their feet throughout the pandemic. Vans selects businesses that show strong creative expression, positively impact their community, and have a clear vision.

Showcasing her retro-style brand, McEntire partnered with Vans to create spirited designs for a “Custom Old Skool” shoe and t-shirt. The net proceeds will go towards new custom design packaging for Chin Up Donuts and a mural by a local artist to be featured in her shop.

“I am excited to share the groovy Chin Up merch that was developed with the help of Vans,” said Alex McEntire, founder of Chin Up Donuts. “An important element to the Chin Up Donut experience is our retro-style shop and branding. I’m so grateful for Vans’ support of my small woman owned business during this challenging time for many local restaurants.”

The designs for the shoes and shirt were inspired by the retro stripes and vibrant colors of Chin Up Donut’s current donut boxes. They are a nod to the desert landscape of Arizona—where the company was born. The color pallet is gender neutral, designed for both men and women.

Chin Up Donuts specializes in spicy, savory and unexpected glazes that re-invent the way that customers look at donuts. Some of these specialty donut flavors include: Sriracha-Cha, a yeast-raised donut with a sweet and spicy sriracha glaze coated in cinnamon sugar sprinkled with red pepper flakes; I Like It A Latte, yeast-raised donut with a coffee glaze using their house-roasted coffee and topped with a dusting of ground espresso; and the famous Ahoy Cap’n, yeast-raised donut with a vanilla glaze topped with Cap’n Crunch Berries cereal. Chin Up Donuts also has specialty coffee drinks that pair perfectly with their delectable donuts including a Cereal Milk Latte, Cap’n crunch berries cereal milk, expresso, topped with cereal pieces and a Honey Lavender Latte, with local honey, lavender extract, choice of milk.

The Vans products are available for until May 11 and can be found on the Vans website.

Chin Up Donuts is located at The Promenade in North Scottsdale at 7325 E Frank Lloyd Wright Suite 103. For additional information on Chin Up Donuts, please visit chinupdonuts.com or on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok.
