Local Cancer Organization Unveils Renderings for First Community Center
By Melody Pierce - Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
The Singletons, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves the needs of single-parent families battling cancer, has released the renderings for the Help Us Build (H.U.B.) Project. The Singletons’ H.U.B. is a 3,344-square-foot building located at 28th St. and Bell that will provide a safe place for families to connect with volunteers, counselors, and other members of the community for support and resources. Brissette Architects helped the project launch by providing completed renderings and the donation of its time.

The H.U.B. will be the operational venue for all Singletons programs that currently serve over 50 families. Community programs include educational classes in health and nutrition, small-scale fundraisers and The Singletons Kitchen, which distributed over 2,352 meals by 250 volunteers last year. The Singletons have already provided 700 meals in April. The project is currently looking for material donations to continue the momentum of the build.

“The Singletons have found that in many cases, the family home becomes a constant reminder of the unfished daily tasks, stressors and hardships these families face,” said Jody Farley, founder and executive director of The Singletons. “We believe that The H.U.B. will serve as a safe place for families to get in touch with other families and members of the community who can provide additional support.”

The property will also feature a Singletons Our Space for teens and children to hang out, a Singletons Garden where families can grow fresh produce, Singletons Offices for day-to-day operations and storage space for donated items in the future.
