Local Cancer Nonprofit Celebrates Community Aid Post-Pandemic
By Melody Pierce - Monday Jun 14, 2021
The Singletons is honoring its community partners and aid throughout the past year while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. It is because of the generous support from Macy’s Arrowhead, Desert Financial Credit Union and Blackstone Country Club that The Singletons was able to continue to provide support to single-parent families battling cancer with distribution days and online events/fundraisers.

“There is no way we would have survived this pandemic without the support of businesses like Macy’s Arrowhead, Desert Financial and Blackstone,” said Jody Farley, founder and executive director of The Singletons. “Every donation, volunteer hour or online campaign gave us the possibility to continue serving our families with fresh meals, supplies and monetary needs.”

Macy’s Arrowhead was introduced to The Singletons in 2018 and has continued to be a foundational support ever since. Macy’s hosted a Singleton’s parent, Alicia, as their “Hero for the Day” and gave her the experience of a lifetime with new clothing, makeup and a gift card to the store. Macy’s Arrowhead has also been a huge support in providing experiences for Singletons Kids with donations of school supplies, Christmas gifts and so much more.
Desert Financial Credit Union (DFCU) has been a loyal partner with The Singletons for over 9 years. Throughout the difficulties that 2020 presented, DFCU was able to adapt and quickly pivot, continuing to support through donations of household items such as toilet paper and cleaning supplies and provide a variety of financial wellness seminars that benefited the community. During Thanksgiving DFCU combined their “Give-Back” days with random acts of kindness, hosting a blood drive, and introducing a unique opportunity to their customers asking them to donate holiday pies to help brighten the holidays for families who continue their battle with cancer. Additionally, DFCU employees volunteered their time helping to prepare “Dream Dinners” which created wholesome and nutritious meals for Singletons families.
The Blackstone Country Club at Vistancia, and our other community partners, have raised over $78,000 this year alone and over $650,000 in the past 11 years. Blackstone has graciously hosted annual golf tournaments that continue to bestow much-needed financial support for The Singletons mission.
