GateWay Community College Supports Student Parents, Veterans and Other Non-Traditional Students with Glitz and Glam Gala

Phoenix, Ariz. – At GateWay Community College’s annual Runway to Success fundraiser, the highlight of the program isn’t just the beautiful fashion show or the fun auction, but GateWay’s own incredible students, many of whom have overcome significant barriers. Runway to Success is coming to The Clayton House in Scottsdale on Friday, March 6. This year’s event is co-chaired by award-winning architectural designer and local fashion icon Oscar De las salas and business-owner and philanthropist Lauri Termansen. Runway to Success 2020 includes an all-star lineup, with Emmy Award-winning journalist and host Carey Peña, auctioneer Letitia Frye, world-class entertainer Dizzie Ramsey, a glitz and glam fashion show with clothes from Fashion by Robert Black, a live and silent auction, dinner, and more.

GateWay is one of the only colleges in the state to provide childcare on campus. Due to barriers with affordable childcare, student parents are among the highest demographic of college dropouts. This year’s fundraising event supports Gateway’s Children’s Learning Center (CLC) is an on-campus childcare facility for parents attending the community college. The CLC eases some of the challenges that come with managing school, work, and family responsibilities at once – removing a barrier for many of GateWay’s students.

In addition, GateWay is making a significant impact in students' lives and in the workforce by offering specialized programs in in-demand fields to get students into real career paths today. Every year, GateWay delivers more than 1,500 graduates into the workforce with programs like welding, nursing, and meat-cutting, with an economic impact of $85 million.

Runway to Success attendees will learn about GateWay’s essential programs and services from the students who benefit directly while enjoying a fun evening of glitz and glam. The night is sure to be full of fun, fashion and more!
