FSL (Foundation for Senior Living) is pleased to announce that regional manager Scott VanSoest has been honored with the Kevin Collins Award for Excellence in Direct Service from the Arizona Housing Coalition. VanSoest was recognized for his outstanding work overseeing 368 units across six of FSL’s affordable housing communities.
“Scott's passion for his work and his deep connection to the community are evident in every action he takes,” said Tami Bohannon, president and CEO of FSL. “He believes that everyone deserves a dignified and prompt response, making him a standout for clients, who often express their gratitude. We are thrilled to see this well-deserved recognition by the Arizona Housing Coalition.”
The Kevin Collins Award for is a distinguished recognition for those who work directly with clients and go above and beyond to get them into housing. According to Bohannon, VanSoest’s commitment to helping individuals secure and maintain housing during his 37 years of service is an essential component in achieving FSL’s mission.
One example of VanSoest’s compassion and deep understanding of the challenges many face can be found in how his work continues even when he has left the office. One day during a shopping trip, he encountered an elderly couple washing windows in the parking lot. After learning they were living in their car, he reached out and guided them through the application process, quickly getting them into FSL housing and giving them the chance to rebuild their lives.
VanSoest received the award during the 29th Annual Bring It Home Conference which took place Feb. 27 and 28 at the Mesa Convention Center. Hosted by the Arizona Housing Coalition, the conference is a premier education and networking event bringing together more than 600 participants from the public and private sectors. This year’s conference focused on taking action, including programs, communications and advocacy that work towards finding safe, affordable homes for all Arizonans.
FSL operates 25 communities across Arizona, providing affordable housing for individuals and families to combat homelessness, which has grown 23.4 percent in the last three years according to The NAU Review.
