FSL Receives $20,000 from The PNC Foundation
By Lindsay Hansen - Thursday Sep 21, 2023
FSL (Foundation for Senior Living) has received a $20,000 grant from The PNC Foundation to support a full-time resident services coordinator at four apartment complexes are Acacia Heights, 29 Palms, Spectrum Courtyard and Village on Roeser. The complexes serve nearly 300 residents who, as they age, need increased support to live independently in affordable housing.

“Our multi-family housing includes LIHTC/HOME projects in Maricopa County offering stable, quality apartments to low-income citizens,” said Tami Bohannon, President and CEO of FSL. “Many older residents find themselves alone at the same time as their aging process sets in. They have new and daunting challenges, and they need support.”

Some examples of these challenges are technology entry points, food insecurity, managing finances, scams, depression or anxiety, health issues, and the death of a loved one. Without intervention, they will further decline and put their housing at risk. FSL’s resident services program will address this need, and funding from the PNC Foundation will help these residents live independently in their units throughout their lifetime.
FSL Resident Services has four priority areas including:
1. Managing and providing access to necessary supportive services in the community while developing programs and resources that support wellness for the entire resident population
2. Helping residents and other relevant parties in the resident's life understand the lease requirements and house rules
3. Advocating for the residents and providing information on how they can access community services
4. Working as an intermediary between clients, often serving in a support role for them during difficult times
FSL’s Resident Services Coordinator will work with residents and property managers to connect to community resources that address the following identified topics: Financial literacy, hoarding, social isolation, technology applications, pharmacy discounts, smoking cessation, avoiding scams, Medicare supplements/ insurance coverage questions, food insecurity, transportation barriers, mental health and substance abuse counseling, and disease prevention. All households this grant serves have annual earnings between 40% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
