Duet Launches New Support Groups for Spanish-Speaking Family Caregivers
By Lindsay Hansen - Wednesday Mar 22, 2023
Duet is excited to announce four new Spanish support group options to increase access to peer support, resources and information for family caregivers.
“These groups are designed to connect caregivers with each other to build strong support networks,” says Patricia Mendez, Duet’s bilingual program coordinator who has spearheaded the project. “By opening groups for Spanish speakers, we can better assess and address their needs while giving them another avenue to develop tools and gather resources and information for the caregiving journey.”
Mendez is a recent addition to the Duet family, providing information, referrals, and other Spanish-speaking services for the community. She comes from a bilingual, bicultural household and was a caregiver for her late father, giving her a first-person perspective into the needs and unique challenges facing family caregivers.
She has led the development of Spanish-speaking support groups, including three in-person groups for local caregivers and one virtual group open to participants across the country:
• Avondale Resource Center – For all Spanish-speaking caregivers regardless of loved one’s condition.
