Duet Celebrates GivingTuesday on November 30; Community Members Encouraged to Help, Give, and Share What They Have with Seniors in Need
By Michelle Talsma Everson - Wednesday Nov 10, 2021
This GivingTuesday, November 30, Duet: Partners In Health & Aging will inspire the community to donate, volunteer, and ask for help in support of its mission to promote health and well-being through vitally needed services to homebound adults, family caregivers, faith communities, and grandfamilies.

Generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together. Even in times of economic uncertainty, we each have a deep reserve of generosity, which we can employ in myriad ways to make a difference—your time, kindness, skills, and voice are all things you can give in addition to charitable donations.

The community can make a vital difference in the lives of local seniors by supporting Duet on GivingTuesday in four ways:
• Donate. Duet is rallying the community to give generously to support their vitally needed, free-of-charge services for homebound seniors like Bob. At 70, Bob was told he needed a lung transplant and was sent to Arizona to receive that treatment, only to be told by a doctor here that his situation was inoperable. Now stuck in Arizona, not knowing anyone, Bob struggles with isolation and loneliness. However, thanks to Duet’s homebound services, he has been matched with a volunteer who not only aids with grocery shopping and rides to doctor’s appointments, but who also offers friendship and conversation. “On the day the doctor told me there was no help for my condition, I felt like my world came crumbling down. But then I found Duet and I feel like my life has meaning again,” Bob shares. Donate at duetaz.org/donate or call (602) 274-5022.
• Volunteer. Just a couple of hours a month can deliver dignity and hope to an isolated senior. Duet’s greatest requests for volunteer service are grocery shopping and transportation to medical appointments. To begin, the first step is to register for an orientation. The next volunteer orientation is on Tuesday, December 14, at Duet’s office at 10000 N. 31st Ave., Suite D200, Phoenix, AZ 85051. Register at duetaz.org/volunteer, call (602) 274-5022, or e-mail [email protected].
• Buy a holiday gift for a child raised by grandparents. There are more than 54,000 Arizona children being raised by their grandparents in an informal kinship home. Duet guides grandparents (and other relatives) with tools and resources to thrive and keep the family together. Your purchase of items on this wish list (search "Duet Holiday Gift Drive for Children Raised by Grandparents" on Amazon) will bring joy to the grandchildren receiving them. Also listed are bath and hygiene items for the grandparents because Duet would like to gift them with a little pampering for themselves for the huge sacrifices they make on behalf of their grandchildren each day.
• Attend a Discover Duet virtual tour. Join Duet at 10 a.m. on December 3 for Discover Duet, a 20-minute informational Zoom tour. You'll learn about their mission through facts and stories of the people they serve. RSVP is required to receive Zoom link. RSVP at duetaz.org/about, call (602) 274-5022, ext. 132, or e-mail [email protected].

“Our 2021 GivingTuesday initiative is part of Duet’s end-of-year giving campaign with a goal to raise $150,000 to assist an additional 466 aging adults,” says Tina Lopez, Director of Development for Duet. “Our hope is to bring in $5,000 toward that goal on this global day of giving.”

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
