Board of Visitors Awards FSL With $50,000 Grant
By Lindsay Hansen - Friday Mar 08, 2024
FSL (Foundation for Senior Living) was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from The Board of Visitors that will be used to support the expenses of a vitally needed member advocate in their ReCreación adult day health program.

“We are thankful to receive support from The Board of Visitors as we work to reach more individuals in need of services,” said Tami Bohannon, president and CEO of FSL. “This grant will allow us to bring a like minded individual to the FSL team who will help potential ReCreación members learn about the services we offer and determine their eligibility.”

The role of a ReCreación member advocate includes being involved in program outreach, conducting comprehensive assessments, facilitating member’s care plan conferences, providing support services to families and caregivers, and more. This role is vital to providing timely and impactful services as the ReCreación program works toward its goals of serving more than 400 members annually and helping at least 80 percent of members maintain or improve their ability to perform daily living activities.

"The Board of Visitors is pleased to support the Foundation for Senior Living’s mission of providing home and community-based services to promote health, independence and dignity for seniors," shared Board of Visitors 2024 Grants Chairman, Susan Tymins. "FSL helps to improve the lives of many seniors in our community, and we are honored to support their efforts."

ReCreación is FSL’s flagship program, started in 1974 as a place where any adult who is living with a physical, cognitive or developmental disability or medical condition can pursue a purposeful day in a safe and organized, but fun and judgment-free environment. Members can attend one of two Valley locations and receive a personalized, stimulating and engaging experience that supports wellness and independence.

About The Board of Visitors:

The Board of Visitors, Arizona’s oldest women’s charitable organization, has been raising funds for more than 100 years to support nonprofits in the greater Phoenix community that serve the healthcare needs of women, children and the elderly. The journey began in 1908, with 16 women volunteering to visit patients at St. Luke’s Home, a tuberculosis sanatorium. These volunteers became The Board of Visitors who in addition to visiting patients began raising funds for the sanitorium which eventually became St. Luke’s Hospital. When the hospital was sold in 1996, The Board of Visitors became a 501(c)(3) and continued fundraising for the healthcare needs of the community.
