Arizona Skin Cancer Foundation Hosts Community Events April 26 and 30th
By Claire Natale - Wednesday Apr 24, 2024
The Arizona Skin Cancer Foundation is excited to announce two community service events providing free sun safety education, preventive skin cancer screenings and sun protection items for the Valley's special needs community in partnership with Special Olympics Arizona and ARCH AZ. The events will be held on April 26 and April 30.

Skin cancer is the leading cancer in the United States and in Arizona. More than five million cases are detected each year. Prevention and early detection through medical skin exams are essential to maintaining healthy skin.

"The Arizona Skin Cancer Foundation is committed to increasing access to preventive health services, including skin cancer screenings and sun safety education, for all Arizonans, regardless of their circumstances," said Jenifer Hunt, Program Director at ASCF. "By partnering with ARCH AZ and Special Olympics Arizona, we are able to reach residents and neighbors who might otherwise miss out on important health services."

Statistics underscore the importance of these events: One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. In addition, the risk of melanoma doubles if a person has had more than five sunburns. Regular screenings can detect signs of skin cancer early when it is most treatable.
At each event, experienced medical providers will exam skin in visible areas and ensure that participants receive the highest standard of care.
Event Details:
Special Olympics Arizona: April 26
ARCH AZ: April 30

This initiative underscores ASCF’s work to foster inclusive health practices and awareness in Arizona. All Arizonans deserve access to life-saving prevention and early detection services.
