Adult Congenital Heart Association’s Walk for 1 in 100 Returns to Phoenix
By Claire Natale - Friday Aug 25, 2023
Family-friendly Walk Will Raise Awareness, Funds for Adults Living with Congenital Heart Defects

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Adult Congenital Heart Association will hold its annual Phoenix Walk for 1 in 100 on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Tempe Diablo Stadium (2200 W Alameda Dr.) in Tempe. The family-friendly event will feature activities like face painting, a photo booth, giant Connect Four, Jenga and cornhole, and Scottsdale restaurant Salt Cellar will provide refreshments to energize walkers. Check-in for the event begins at 9 a.m. and the opening ceremony kicks off at 10 a.m.

“There are approximately 2 million adults in the United States with a congenital heart disease and only 10% of those patients are getting the specialized care they need,” said Mark Roeder, president and CEO of ACHA. “As the only national advocacy group focused on this community, the Adult Congenital Heart Association is dedicated to increasing awareness, pursuing research and helping people live with a higher quality of life. We look forward to greeting new and returning walkers in all our Walk for 1 in 100 communities!”

This year marks the Adult Congenital Heart Association’s 25th anniversary and with an overall goal of raising $550,000 nationwide, the organization is challenging walkers to pledge $25 or more. Leading up to the Walk, ACHA will provide fundraising incentives such as tickets to the Phoenix Zoo and a visit to Top Golf.

Funds generated through the Phoenix walk will support the ACHA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Accreditation Program, which is working to elevate and standardize care for people living with ACHD nationwide. In addition, Walk for 1 in 100 funds cutting-edge medical research, advocacy efforts and various educational and outreach initiatives.
