ACCEL Celebrates All Abilities with Adapted Activities at ACCEL Days
By Autumn Jarrett - Wednesday Mar 24, 2021
ACCEL is a nonprofit organization serving children and adults who have developmental disabilities, hosted an adapted week of virtual and outdoor activities at its campuses in Phoenix, Tempe and Buckeye. The annual “ACCEL Days” event celebrates all ability levels and promotes team-building, motor skills, communication skills and school pride.

“Every student, regardless of ability level, deserves to enjoy a field day,” said Matt LeVac, ACCEL’s therapy supervisor. “We incorporated more virtual activities this year along with the outdoor activities for safety. We look forward to this week each year and are thrilled that the 2021 ACCEL Days were a success.”

The 2021 ACCEL Days, sponsored by PRC-Saltillo and UnitedHealthcare in Arizona, included a STEAM spirit week and STEAM-related activities for each classroom such as creating a constellation viewer, a marble run, video games, a box assembly challenge, awards and an outer space themed dance.

Funding for ACCEL Days was provided by PRC-Saltillo and United Healthcare in Arizona.

“We are honored to work with ACCEL to support ACCEL Days,” said Chuck Reid, PRC’s VP of Marketing & Distribution. “Our mission – the core of what we do – is to enable individuals with speech and language impairments to successfully communicate and interact in their environment. We couldn’t be more delighted.”

ACCEL also presented classroom T-shirt design awards and classroom participation awards at the conclusion of ACCEL days.

“Partnering with ACCEL to support the vital work they do for Arizonans with developmental disabilities is one way we live out our mission – to help people live healthier lives,” said Heather Kane, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Arizona/New Mexico. “Everyone should have the chance to live life to the fullest.”
