Ability360 Sponsors 19th Annual American Indian Disability Summit Friday, March 24 in Phoenix

The 19th Annual American Indian Disability Summit “Gathering Native Voices to Learn from the Past, Present, Prepare for the Future” will be held on Friday, March 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Desert Willow Conference Center, 4340 E. Cotton Center Blvd., Phoenix, AZ 85040. Ability360 is a sponsor and Darrel Christenson, Vice President of Community Integration will be involved in the Opening Ceremonies.

This year’s keynote speaker is Hoskie Benally Jr. (Navajo), Advocate, Native American Disability Law Center, New Mexico and will address “Respect for Natural Laws and Traditional Stories to Prevent Disharmony.” President Joe Biden recently appointed Benally to the National Council on Disability.

The disability summit will be in person and available virtually. There will be a variety of speakers addressing topics such as sexual violence within tribal communities, supporting youth with disabilities in their transition to employment, stereotyping in the media, advocating for the disabled, parents taking action to improve autism services access for Dine’ families and more!

The 3rd Annual Youth Summit will be virtual on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will highlight voices of American Indian youth with disabilities and focus on aspects of American Indian life, history, culture and heritage that can help you address today’s challenges.
