Some people may remember Katharine McPhee as the runner-up in 2006 on season five of “American Idol.” Much has changed since then and the reality singing show alum has gone on to have hit singles and records, and star in movies “The House Bunny” and “Shark Night” and TV shows “Smash” and “Scorpion.” In 2021, McPhee became a first-time mom to son, Rennie, whom she welcomed with her husband, David Foster and recently became the target of body image conversation.

In late December 2021, Foster posted a photo of his wife in a black bathing suit, sitting in a garden and wearing a pair of sunglasses and he captioned it, “What baby!” The comment struck a nerve with some who felt that it was reflective of an unrealistic expectation, sometimes spawned by media or celebrities, of a woman to physically bounce back quickly after having a child. The fact of the matter is that every woman’s body is different. It should be noted that photo was taken 10 months after McPhee had her baby.
