Jenna Ortega has garnered the role of her career thus far, portraying the title character in “Wednesday,” one of the new offerings on Netflix. The show follows character Wednesday Addams of “The Addams Family” wildly popular comic strip, TV show, cartoons and movies. This updated and more sophisticated series follows Wednesday in her daily life at Nevermore Academy, a boarding school where her parents, Gomez and Morticia Addams first fell in love. Along the way, Wednesday must unravel a family mystery.

Ortega may seem like an overnight sensation due to her meteoric rise to stardom in the quirky and dark Netflix show, directed by the equally quirky Tim Burton. In reality, Ortega is a show biz veteran who has been acting since the young age of nine in shows and movies like “Iron Man 3,” “Insidious: Chapter 2,” and TV series “Richie Rich” and “Jane the Virgin.” All grown up, the 20-year-old portrays the frequently macabre lead character with a frighteningly childlike innocence balanced with a wickedly smart worldliness that often translates into comedy.
